Occupation: Master Magician of Cephiro
Job: Madoushi (Magician). Despite being a magician, Klef also has Summoning magic.
Spells: Accept: Awakens Magic Powers and gives them to a person. Clefto (Seijyuu Shokan=Creature Summon): As its Japanese name says, it summons a magical creature. Cresta (Kakubojyo=Barrier): A Magical Barrier to prevent Magic attacks. Thunders (Inazumashorai=Bolt attack): A powerful bolt comes down and strikes the enemy. Slayer: It returns the magical creature to its dimension.
Weapon: None, but has a large staff with the figure of a fish. In that staff is where the magical creture, Fuhla, lives.
Magic Type: Summon, and every other attack or curative magic.
Personality: Klef is the greatest magician of Cephiro, and the court's main consultant. He looks as if he is no more than 7, but he is actually over 700 years old. He masters most magic types, yet he is unable to save Cephiro since he would never have gotten himself to slay Emeraude or Zagato, who, along with Lantis and Alcione, was his pupil. He kind of falls in love with Umi in the anime, but it is not clear. He is the one that gives the Magic Knights their magic powers and their evolutionary equipment, save for the weapons.
Age: around 20
Hair: Blondish-orange
Eyes: Orange
Occupation: Master Blacksmith of Cephiro
Job: Soshi (Blacksmith). As any good blacksmith, Presea is also quite good at fighting with bladed weapons.
Spells: Her only "Magics" are when she forges weapons from Escudo, and when she recalls the Escudo weapons at the beginning of Part 2.
Weapon: None, but she can handle swords and the like with good ability.
Magic Type: None.
Personality: Presea is the only blacksmith in Cephiro capable of forging weapons with the legendary mineral, Escudo. She makes the Magic Knights' weapons, and here is one big difference in the Anime: In the manga, she just stays behind, but in the Anime, Atlante, one of Ascot's summoned monsters, kills her. In the anime, to make up for that, since she is present in Rayearth 2, they invented her twin sister, called Sierra. I am not doing a profile for her, since they are absically the same character. Also, she is in love with Klef.

Eyes: Blue
Occupation: Pillar of Cephiro
Job: None. Maybe Hime (princess), but that's it.
Spells: Debonair: An attack of light beams. Psynos: An energy shield.
Mashin: It is not official, but it is usually referred to as Centaur, since in the manga, it represents a centaur (greek mythological creatures with the upper body of a man and the lower body of a horse). In the anime, the back was cut away, so it is more human-like.
Weapon: None, but she uses Zagato's sword after he dies.
Magic Type: Light.
Personality: Emeraude is the Pillar of Cephiro. That means she is in charge of praying for Cephiro, and only for it, to avoid its destruction. She cannot love anybody else, and that's where Zagato comes in. He was her aide, but she fell in love with him. For that reason, Cephiro began to be slowly destroyed. She then summoned the Magic Knights, who are the Pillar's self-destruction system, since the Pillar cannot take its own life. After the Magic Knights had slayed her beloved Zagato, she became a being full of anger and darkness, and tried to destroy them, but her good side urged the young girls to kill them, so she and Zagato could be together in the afterlife.

Occupation: Monster slayer. Swordsman. Prince of Cephiro
Job: Kenshi (Swordsman). Ferio is a talented and strong swordsman and can wield without problems his large sword. His character design is very similar to Naga, also called King Ryu, from RG Veda. Their swords are similar!
Spells: None. Ferio is a swordsman, and has no spells.
Weapon: A LARGE curved sword. The name is not mentioned.
Magic Type: None.
Personality: The Magic Knights first encounter Ferio when they are going through the Silent Forest to get the legendary mineral Escudo. They don't trust him at first, thinking he is one of Zagato's forces. He proves otherwise and goes in a different direction when they leave the forest. In the Anime, they encounter him many more times, during which he helps the knights face Zagato's men (and women). But the Magic Knights find out in the second part that he is Emeraude's young brother. Since they encounter him so many times in the Anime, they put it as if he had lost his memory, as a perfect excuse not to tell them. In the Manga of Rayearth 2, it is more of a surprise. He falls in love with Fuu, who also falls for him. I think it is the only CLEAR love relationship in Rayearth, apart from Zagato and Emeraude.

Hair: None. Has white fur.
Eyes: Unknown
Occupation: Pet/Humor relief. In the manga it is the creator of Earth and Cephiro, thus, it is God.
Job: N/A.
Spells: Well, it can create worlds and universes, as well as the Mashin, so I don't think it needs any spells.
Weapon: None.
Magic Type: Every type.
Personality: Mokona is a sometimes irritating, yet adorable little creature. It looks like a tiny cartoon rabbit, and it has a gem in its forehead. It helps the Magic Knights in their first adventure, providing communication with Klef as well as guiding them through Cephiro. In the end of the second part, of the manga, we discover that it is, in reality, the creator of the universe of Earth and that of Cephiro, thus, it is God.
Age: around 30-35
Hair: Black
Eyes: Purple
Occupation: Sorcerer. Klef's pupil.
Job: Madoshi (Mage/Sorceress). Alcione controls weak attack magic as well as slight summoning powers.
Spells: Araia: A powerful cold wind attacks. Arailu: Several frozen arrows strike forward. Astra: Frozen spears attack the enemy. In the anime, it is an Ice Beam. Clefto (Seijyuu Shokan=Creature Summon): As its Japanese name says, it summons a magical creature.
Weapon: None. She has a Mage staff which helps her cast her spells.
Magic Type: Ice/Summon.
Personality: Alcione is a lesser Cephirian sorceress. She learned the ways of magic with Klef, and fell in love with one of his other pupils, Zagato. She acts in quite an evil way, but all she does is for the sake of his love to Zagato, who disregards her feelings since he has more pressing matters to take care of. In the Manga, she is murdered by Zagato, but in the anime, everytime she fails her life is spared and she even becomes an important character in the second part, being slain in the end by Debonair, since she wanted to prevent Alcione from revealing her identity.
Age: around 10
Hair: Brown
Eyes: Green
Occupation: Summoner. Monster tamer.
Job: Shokanshi (Summoner). Also Majyutsukai (Monster Trainer). Ascot has the ability to summon beasts at his will. He also has some limited use of offensive magic.
Spells: Askice: An electric forcefield that prevents magic attacks is created. Maxima (Majyuu Shokan = Demonic Creature Summon): A huge portal formed with a six or five-point star appears and one or many beasts emerge from it. Astral Beam (official name unknown): In the manga, since he doesn't have attack spells, Klef teaches him a magic spell that begins like a normal summon, but instead of the creatures, a light beam emerges from the portal. Ascot says he asked Klef to teach him an attack spell so he could protect himself without relying on others.
Weapon: None. He uses an Orb in his hand to help in his summoning spells.
Magic Type: Summon.
Monsters: In the Anime, he had specific monsters for the first part, these were: Atlante: A huge caterpillar who turns into a gigantic butterfly. Bigot: A horrifying and big canine-like beast, who was disguised as a squirrel. Luci: In the shape of a snail, this monster never saw much action. Pajero: This monster lived in a desert which was presumably created by Zagato. It had the shape of a Manta Ray and was blind. Capella: This monster was used by Ascot as a sort of Mashin, and was defeated by Celes.
Personality: Ascot, besides being the webmaster of this nice site, is also a secondary character in this story. It is unknown what happened to his parents, but as far as he can remember, he has had his friends, the monsters he summons. These monsters are not evil and cause no harm, but their appearance is terrifying. Because of this, nobody would let Ascot live in a town with his monsters. Zagato encounters him and tells him that he would let him live in the Castle of Cephiro if he helped him with his summoning powers. Ascot accepted and attacked the Knights, but was defeated by Umi. He then fell in love with Umi and, using his willpower, grew to appear as a teenager in the second part.
Age: around 20-25
Hair: Pink
Eyes: Blue
Occupation: Dancer, performer.
Job: Genwakushi (Illusionist) and Odoriko (Dancer). Caldina has the power to create illusions, and also to temporarily contro someone's mind and have them do as she wills.
Spells: None. Her mind controlling abilities are not performed by magic spells.
Weapon: None in the first part. Daggers in Rayearth 2.
Magic Type: Illusion. Psychic.
Personality: Caldina is a performer and dancer with the power of illusion. She has been hired by Zagato to murder the Magic Knights, but in the end she is astonished by the young girls' sense of friendship, and decides that money is not than important. In the Anime, she was like an older sister to Ascot. She falls in love with Rafaga in the second part, and says that he is the main reason she stayed in Cephiro.
Age: around 30
Hair: Blonde
Eyes: Cyan
Occupation: Knight. Captain of Princess Emeraude's personal guard.
Job: Kishi (Knight). Rafaga is a formidable warrior with great ability with weapons, especially swords.
Spells: None. Rafaga is the only character apart from Ferio who lacks any kind of magical or supernatural powers.
Weapon: A large sword with a blue handle and a two-sided blade. The name is not mentioned.
Magic Type: None.
Personality: Rafaga was the head of the Royal Guard of princess Emeraude, after Lantis' departure to the planet of Auto-zam. He faced Zagato when he took a stance outside the princess' prison, to avoid her death in the hands of the Magic Knights. Zagato brainwashed him and he faced the Magic Knights in the Temple of Fire (in the anime it was before they got there). After he tried to grab Hikaru's sword, it enveloped him in flames and he returned to his normal self. In the Anime he even fought Zagato in the Temple, but was defeated. He is in love with Caldina in the second part.
Age: Unknown, since he is an elf. Could be around 20 or 50
Hair: White
Eyes: Purple
Occupation: Zagato's Main Aide. He is also his councilor (and pet ^_^).
Job: Elf, or Seijyu (Magical Creature). Innova is a Magical Creature turned into an elf, and has some magical powers of great magnitude.
Spells: Although Innova does use spells, their names are never mentioned. He has the ability to teleport, create beams of energy, and even projecting images.
Weapon: None.
Magic Type: Unknown. Could be called Astral, like Slayers' Zelgadis' magic.
Personality: Innova is a character created exclusively for the Anime. He was a present for Zagato from princess Emeraude, from the time Zagato was her Aide. Innova, being a gigantic monster, asked Zagato to turn him into a more suitable form, but one which would limit his powers. Also, the spell could be done and reversed only once, after which he would stay in his monster form forever. He acts like Zagato's main councilor and is the only one that knows Zagato's true intentions. When he sees the Magic Knights' progress, he asks Zagato to turn him back into a monster so he could unleash his power on the young girls. He is finally defeated by the Magic Knights with some help from Rafaga. Do not mistake him with Rayearth 2's Nova, another character added for the Anime.
Age: around 35-40
Hair: Black
Eyes: Purple
Occupation: Master Priest of Cephiro. Klef's pupil. Emeraude's ex-Aide.
Job: Shinkan (literally "Shinto Priest", but also means Great Priest). Zagato is a priest who, much like Slayers' Rezo, controls most magic types, especially darkness.
Spells: Cresta (Kakubojyo=Barrier): A Magical Barrier to prevent Magic attacks. Diablo: A powerful silver beam is shot at the enemy. Lexus: A dark shield covers Zagato's Mashin and avoids more powerful attacks, like Mashin Magic spells. Stratos: Several dark bolts attack the enemy.
Mashin: Has not known official name, but has been referred to as "Centurion". It represents a Dark Knight, and has a large shield and a sword identical to Zagato's (like the knights' Mashins).
Weapon: It is a medieval horseman sword. It is quite long and black. Its name is not mentioned.
Magic Type: Most Magic Types. Specialized in Darkness.
Personality: Zagato came from a family with the greatest magic power in Cephiro. His brother, Lantis, is the only Mahou Kenshi (magic swordsman) of Cephiro, since he has almost the same power as him. Zagato was enlisted as the princess' Aide to help her in her prayers, but he didn't expect to fall in love with her. When Emeraude summoned the Magic Knights to have them kill her, Zagato couldn't allow it, and started gathering allies to obliterate the Knights. He fought the knights with his mashin but was defeated, and afterwards, Emeraude joined him in the afterlife. He is not really a bad person, but he could do anything for what he loves the most in the world, much like RG Veda's Yasha (who he looks a lot alike BTW). His name is usually translated as Zagart due to the japanese pronunciation, but on trading cards and official merchandising, it is clear that the western translation is Zagato.
